Houston area · 9 counties · public records from Texas HHSC
Only 14 out of 100 inspected Houston daycares have a clean high-risk record.
The state has inspected 3,284 of the 3,478 licensed daycares across the nine-county area and written up 36,721 violations, 23,974 of them high risk. Every one is here, in the inspector’s own words, with how each daycare compares with its county.

Licensed centers
Commercial child care centers, usually 13 or more children, inspected by the state at least once a year.
Licensed child care homes
Care in the provider's own home for up to 12 children, licensed and inspected like a center.
Registered child care homes
Care in the provider's home for up to six children plus six after school. Registered and inspected, on a lighter schedule than a license.
Listed family homes
One to three unrelated children in the provider's home. Listed with the state but not routinely inspected, so many have no record at all.
How to read these pages
Every number comes from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, which licenses and inspects child care. We do not inspect daycares, score them or add findings of our own. A violation is what a state inspector recorded on a visit, graded by the state as High, Medium High, Medium, Medium Low or Low; the first two are what we call high risk. Where the record shows a correction, we show it.
We compare daycares by high-risk violations per inspection, not by raw count, because a large center inspected twenty times will always have more findings on paper than a small home inspected twice. A daycare that has never been inspected is shown as exactly that, never as clean.
The summary on every page is free. The inspector’s full narratives, the dates and the correction history are in the report, $12 once. Daycare owners can claim their page; paid placements are labelled Featured and never change the record.
