What this site is

CheckTheDaycare republishes public inspection records for licensed child care operations in the Houston area, as published by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). We present counts, severities, dates and the inspectors’ own descriptions, and we compare operations by high-risk violations per inspection within their county.

What this site is not

• Not an inspection. We have not visited any daycare on this site and have no knowledge of any of them beyond the published record.
• Not a rating or a recommendation. A comparison by inspection rate is one measure of one thing. It is not a judgement of the quality of care, and we do not recommend any daycare over another.
• Not complete or current to the minute. We refresh from the source on its schedule (daily), and the source updates its own file on its own schedule. A finding may be corrected, or a new one recorded, before it appears here. Always confirm anything important with the operator and with HHSC directly.
• Not advice. Choosing child care is your decision. This site gives you one public record to read while making it.

Accuracy

We work to reproduce the state’s record faithfully and to describe our calculations plainly. If you find an error in how we have presented a record, email chris@securelayerhq.com and we will check it promptly. We cannot change the published record itself; corrections to the underlying file are made with HHSC.

Buying a report

• A report is a one-time purchase for one facility, priced as shown at the time of purchase, paid through Stripe.
• After payment you receive the report on screen and a permanent link by email. The link is for your use; please do not republish the report.
• Because the report is delivered in full at once, refunds are at our discretion. If the report does not open, or the record it shows is not the facility you paid for, email us and we will refund or fix it.
• Payment never changes a record. A facility’s owner buying a report, or a Featured placement, sees and gets exactly what anyone else does.

Featured placements

Operators may pay for a Featured placement, which affects position on list pages and adds features to their own page. It is always labelled Featured. It never alters, hides, softens or reorders any inspection record, on their page or anyone else’s.

Using the site

• You may read, link to and quote the pages for personal, journalistic, academic or non-commercial purposes with attribution to CheckTheDaycare and to HHSC as the source.
• Do not scrape the site in bulk or republish it as a dataset. The underlying public data is available from the State of Texas directly.
• Do not use anything here to harass, threaten or defame any operator or person. The record speaks for itself; we publish it so that families can read it, not so that anyone can be attacked.

Liability

The site is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, Secure Layer HQ LLC is not liable for decisions made in reliance on the records republished here, or for errors or omissions in the published data or in our presentation of it. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us.
