Your daycare is already listed here. Here is what that means.
CheckTheDaycare publishes the state’s inspection record for every licensed daycare in the Houston area, exactly as the state published it. Yours is on the site whether or not you have ever heard of us, because it is a public record. This page explains what is free, what you can add, and what no amount of money changes.
What is already on your page, free
- Your name, address, phone, licence number and permit status, capacity, ages served, hours and whether you accept subsidies, all from the state’s own file.
- Your inspection counts: total violations, how many the state graded high risk, how many inspections, and the date of the last one.
- How you compare with your county by high-risk violations per inspection, which is the fair measure. A center inspected twenty times is not punished for being inspected.
- Every correction the state recorded, shown next to the finding. Most findings were corrected; we say so.
Three things that never change
- Paying never hides, softens or reorders a record. A paying daycare’s violations appear exactly as every other daycare’s do. If we would not do that for you, no parent could trust the page about anyone.
- The paywall applies to everyone, including you. The full report costs the same $12 whether you own the daycare or are choosing one.
- Paid placements are labelled, every time, on every page they appear. That is the law and it is also the point.
Two ways to add to your page
Tell your side, in your words, on the page parents are already reading.
- Your response under any finding. The published record stays where it is; your words sit beneath it, labelled as yours. “The fire inspection was completed on 14 May and is on file.”
- Photos and your own description above the record.
- A Book a tour button on your page, linked to your calendar or your phone.

- One of 3 Featured spots on your city page, in a labelled block above the list where parents are choosing among dozens, plus turns on the county page and the home page.
- Nobody is permanently first. The order rotates every hour, so each Featured daycare is on top an equal share of the time. When a city’s 3 spots are taken, the next owner waits for one to open.
- Your phone number on the list rows, so a parent can call without opening your page.
- Book a tour on your card as well as your page.
Both are month to month and stop when you say so. Signup is by email for now; write from an address at your business with your licence number and we confirm you are the operator before anything goes on the page.
Something in your record wrong?
The record comes from the state; we cannot edit it and would not. If the published file is out of date, contact Texas HHSC Child Care Regulation and the correction will flow onto your page on the next refresh. If we have shown something incorrectly, email chris@securelayerhq.com and we will fix it the same day, no tier needed.
